The centre-back went down innocuously after 15 minutes before being replaced by Clevid Dikamona.

Souttar has snapped his right Achilles and Stendel confirmed that he won’t play again this season

"The first diagnosis was that he cannot play this season any more,” the German said.

“It's bad."

The reaction from players like Michael Smith on the pitch suggested early on it was a nasty injury.

The Northern Irishman turned to the bench with his hands on his head and indicated a substitution straightaway.

It is the latest serious injury the 23-year-old has suffered. He had to undergo ankle surgery earlier this season, while he ruptured his Achilles tendon in 2017.
