The club confirmed the player had signed a pre-contract agreement with the Pars with his Tynecastle deal expiring at the end of the season.

Wighton has fallen out of favour at Tynecastle in recent weeks. Since starting at former club Dundee at the beginning of January he has not made three match-day squads, while failing to get off the bench during the 3-2 defeat to Raith Rovers.

The signing of Armand Gnanduillet has pushed him further down the pecking order.

Wighton has hit seven goals in 14 appearances this season, starting with a hat-trick against Raith Rovers in the Betfred Cup.

His most notable contribution was the opening goal in the Scottish Cup semi-final with Hibs back in October.

The 23-year-old has played 37 times for the club since joining from Dundee in 2018. He spent a short spell out on loan to Arboath during last season.
