The Australian left-back had fallen out of the first team picture under Robbie Neilson having been left out of the squad for the Betfred Cup matches following the arrival of Stephen Kingsley.

The 25-year-old joined the club on a three-year deal in the summer of 2018 from Adelaide United and made 29 appearances in maroon, scoring once – a stunning 25-yard free-kick in a 5-0 win over Inverness in July 2018.

He suffered a cruciate ligament injury last year which kept him out for around 12 months, making his comeback under Daniel Stendel in January and his last competitive appearance came as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with Hamilton at Tynecastle on February 15.

Neilson said: “I’m sure the fans will thank Ben for giving his all every time he pulled on a Hearts shirt and we wish him all the best for the future.”
