Earlier this month supporters of the Gorgie side were treated to the famous 5-1 win over Hibs in the 2012 final. On Friday, few Hearts fans would have been tuning in as the SFA showed the 1996 Scottish Cup final, when Rangers defeated Hearts 5-1

The 1998 win is one of the most historic victories in the club’s history, ending a 36-year wait for a major trophy.

The 2-1 win over Rangers at Celtic Park with goals from Colin Cameron and Stephane Adam ensured the 98’ cup-wining team have been and will continue to be revered in EH11.

With football unlikely to return to Scotland until June at the earliest, fans have been starved of action.

The win, masterminded by Jim Jefferies and Billy Brown, is up there alongside the biggest derby of all time in 2012, in the pantheon of momentous moments in the club’s history.

In an interview recently, Brown said he believed the cup-winning team would be capable of winning the league now.

He said: “I liked all the players in that team. We had finely honed it down to about 16 or 17 players that we wanted. They were all good boys and we had the two hungriest football players I’ve ever come across in my life. Colin Cameron and Neil McCann. Hungry boys.

“That team, as far as I’m concerned, would win the league the now.”

The match can be viewed on the William Hill Scottish Cup’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.
