Hearts have been linked with a move for Dundee United midfielder Calum Butcher.

Reports suggest that Jambos head coach Robbie Neilson is keen to bring his former player with him to Tynecastle.

Butcher was an integral part of United’s Championship success under Neilson last season, making 28 appearances and scoring three goals.

The combative Englishman was an influential figure both in the middle of the park and in central defence when required.

Prizing him away from Tannadice will be difficult though with the 29-year-old under contract until 2023 after penning a new deal in November.

And according to The Courier, United have no intention of letting him leave this summer and won't entertain any approach from Hearts.

Butcher joined United for a second time in January last year and, at the time, Neilson said: "Calum will add strength and drive to our midfield.

“He has grown as a player during his spell back in England and is an important addition to our squad. He knows the Scottish game.”

Butcher previously spent two seasons at Tannadice between 2013 and 2015 and has also featured for Burton, Millwall and Mansfield.
