Hearts: Marcel Langer red card down to over-eagerness, says Daniel Stendel

Daniel Stendel feels Marcel Langer’s red card at Celtic Park was due to the German midfielder’s over-eagerness to make an impact on a chastening night for Hearts.

In what was his third appearance for the club, the 22-year-old came on at half-time when his side trailed 1-0 but they conceded two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half and were 5-0 down by the time he saw red for a reckless lunge on Scott Brown.

Stendel is confident there will be no repeat of such rashness from his most recent signing. “It’s not like he’s 17 or 18 but this is a new experience for him, playing at the biggest club he’s been at, playing so soon after arriving,” said Stendel. “He needs to show that he wants to help the club and that I made the right decision to sign him.

“I think all this, with the impressions from the first five minutes of the second half against Celtic, pushed him a little bit too much.

“He wanted to show that he was working hard and trying to help Hearts, but the reaction was too much. We know it and he knows it but he will learn. I don’t think it will happen in the future.”
