Cochrane, 19, is still part of Hearts’ long-term plans but is being loaned out to play more regularly between now and January.

He is to train with part-time Montrose one night a week and will still report to Riccarton daily to work with coaches and players at his parent club.

Hearts want him to get more game time as he is not expected to be a frequent member of the first team under manager Robbie Neilson at the moment.

However, the club believe he can still have future with them. His contract expires at the end of the season and Tynecastle officials will look to extend that over the coming weeks.

Cochrane came through the Riccarton youth academy before breaking into the Hearts senior side in 2017 as a 16-year-old. He scored his first goal in a memorable 4-0 home win against Celtic that year.

He later dropped out of the team having been hindered by injuries and spent time on loan at Dunfermline last season.

He is a Scotland youth internationalist who has represented his country at under-14, under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-19 level.

Hearts hope he can now play matches week in and week out at Montrose and the situation will then be reassessed in the early part of next year.
