Also in the market for a striker and a midfielder, the Edinburgh club would like to reinforce their back line following Jamie Brandon’s season-ending knee injury.

The 22-year-old is out until after the summer with a ruptured cruciate ligament and manager Robbie Neilson wants a replacement right-back as deputy to first-choice Michael Smith.

Neilson admitted that three new signings in the next week is ambitious with a striker being the priority. If Hearts don’t secure a new full-back, teenager Cammy Logan may be recalled from Cove Rangers.

He joined the League One side on loan earlier this month but has yet to play as their division remains suspended due to Covid 19.

Neilson explained that he is currently after three new players. “Yeah, we are at the moment. Will we get three? I don't know. We'd like to add a bit to the squad,” he told the Evening News.

“I'd like to get another full-back in to compete with Michael if I can. If not then Cammy could stay with us. The priority is to get him game time, which I think he needs to give him a chance to get involved next season.

“We want Cammy to go and play games. The concern is that, if we keep him here as back-up to Michael, he might only play one or two games.

“If we get him out on loan, he could play 15 or 16 games. We will asses it at the end of the window.”
