Hearts fans were in despondent mood following the 1-0 defeat to St Mirren on Wednesday.

Daniel Stendel’s men put in a disappointing performance in one of the biggest games of the season against their relegation rivals in Paisley.

The German questioned the players’ “fight” after a result which leaves the team rooted to the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Hearts find themselves four points behind 11th-place Hamilton and six behind St Mirren and Ross County with just eight games to play.

Up next is a trip to Livingston, a team which have the third best home record in the league.

While many Hearts fans are preparing for relegation, the bookies still don’t have the Jam Tarts as favourites to finish bottom of the table.

After the defeat to St Mirren McBookie cut odds on the Gorgie side to place last to 9/4. Hamilton are still favourites, priced 6/5.

The Buddies’ win, thanks to a Jonathan Obika strike, has boosted their safety chances hugely. Both Jim Goodwin’s men and Ross County are 5/1 to be automatically relegated.
