The on-loan Preston North End winger missed the last three matches with a thigh injury after an impressive start to the season.

He pulled up in the win at Arbroath last month and hasn’t featured since – missing the Scottish Cup semi-final victory against Hibs, the league win over Inverness and Tuesday’s Betfred Cup tie at East Fife.

Ginnelly will rejoin team-mates at Riccarton on Friday and, provided he suffers no setbacks, will then be in contention for the match at East End Park seven days later.

“Ginnelly will train on Friday with a view to being ready for the Dunfermline game,” said the Hearts manager Robbie Neilson today. “It would definitely be a boost for us to get him back because he started the season really well.”

Neilson and club medical staff are still awaiting results of a scan on midfielder Loic Damour’s ankle.
