Hibs 'acting like they'd won a trophy' highlights Edinburgh gulf, insists Hearts defender

Hearts defender Toby Sibbick believes Hibs acting like ‘they’d won a trophy’ at the end of Sunday’s Edinburgh derby highlights the gulf in expectations between the Edinburgh rivals this season.

Scenes of jubilation were sparked at Easter Road after Martin Boyle completed a Roy of the Rovers style comeback by netting an equaliser with the last kick of the game following his move back to the club from Al-Faisaly. This included fans invading the pitch and the home team doing a lap of honour after the final whistle.

The late strike cancelled out Lawrence Shankland’s first goal for Hearts as the Tynecastle club’s marquee summer signing gave the visitors the lead midway through the opening period.

With Hearts dejected by only getting a point and Hibs delirious, Sibbick reckons it says a lot about where each club is at this moment in time.

“No, it's not great to see supporters running about the pitch, but I think it puts it into perspective where we are as a team,” he told the Evening News. “We're coming out, disappointed with a draw. They score an equaliser and it's like they've won the league or a trophy. It puts it into perspective where we both are.

“We've got high expectations in that we want to come here and win, and it looks like they're happy with a draw. But obviously it's football. Their fans are happy they got the goal and we're devastated we drew.

“I don't think they've beaten us for six or seven games now, so a draw is as close as they can get to beating us at the moment.”
