Joel Pereira - 4

A clean sheet but another unconvincing display from the keeper who incurred the wrath of the away support after failing to take a few crosses at the first attempt. No saves of note to make although relieved to see three Falkirk attempts come back off the woodwork.

Sean Clare - 7

Another confident display from the resurgent right-back. Hearts' best player in the first half. Scored penalty before getting a standing ovation as he went off with an injury.

Ben Garuccio - 5

Mixed display from the left-back who had some good moments but was also slack in possession at times.

Craig Halkett - 6

The centre-back looked uncomfortable in the first half when Hearts were against the wind but was far more commanding after the break.

Michael Smith - 7

Back after injury, the Northern Irishman played three different positions - centre-back, central midfield and right-back - and was composed and commanding in all three.

Clevid Dikamona - 5

The centre-back was given a rare start and looked shaky at times as the wind wreaked havoc with high balls. Misjudged ball through to Josh Todd in first half but was more assured as game wore on.

Andy Irving - 6

Struggled to get his passing going in the first half but was more effective after the break.

Marcel Langer - 5

The German kept things ticking over in central midfield but did little of note.

Steven Naismith - 5

The captain, playing just behind Boyce and Washington, was unable to influence the game as much as he would have liked before being replaced in the second half.

Conor Washington - 6

Put in a typically diligent shift and had some good bits of link-up play but unable to get a clear sight of goal himself.

Liam Boyce - 7

Had Hearts' only notable attempt of the first half, won the match-deciding penalty and caused Falkirk problems with some clever play in the closing half hour.

Subs:

Jamie Walker - 6

Replaced Naismith and produced a lively attacking display which helped spark an improvement in Hearts' performance in the closing stages.

Euan Henderson - 5

Played on the left initially then moved up front in closing stages. Spurned a great chance from close range.

Anthony McDonald - 5

Played on right wing after being introduced for his first appearance since returning from loan at Dunfermline.
