Former Hearts and Rangers midfielder Ian Black has left Tranent Juniors and signed for rival East of Scotland Premier Division side Dunbar United.

The 34-year-old, who began his senior career with Inverness Caledonian Thistle before moving to Tynecastle and subsequently Glasgow, spent just over two years at Foresters Park on his return to Scotland after a spell in English football that saw him turn out for Shrewsbury Town, Blackpool, Chorley and Skelmersdale United.

A statement from Dunbar read: “We are delighted to announce the signing of ex-Hearts and Rangers midfielder Ian Black following his departure from Tranent Juniors.

“The manager moved quickly to secure Ian’s signature last week and he joins us at an important stage of the season with every game being a cup final.

“He brings great technical ability, but he also loves a tackle and will add a wealth of experience at the highest level.

“He will go straight into the squad for this weekends massive game at home to Sauchie.”

Black, capped once for Scotland, could face his former club on March 24 when Dunbar visit Tranent on league duty.
