Ex-Hearts captain Michael Stewart reckons Craig Gordon’s stupendous first half save is the “difference" between Hibs winning and keeping Robbie Neilson’s men level.

The Scotland international pushed away a point blank header from Kevin Nisbet.

Stewart admitted that if it was any of the goalkeepers who played for the club last season, they wouldn’t have saved it.

“That’s where you want your big players to step up for you and Craig Gordon has done that,” he said. This is why he is such a crucial signing for Hearts because make no bones about it, if that had been a [Zdenek] Zlamal, [Colin] Doyle or [Joel] Pereira that would have been in the back of the net.

“Hibs would 1-0 up, that’s the difference, that’s really is, highlights it perfectly. Craig Gordon is in goals, makes the save, Hearts are still in the game.

“That is a huge, huge boost and bonus for Hearts to have someone of his calibre in the goal.”
