Irish sports injury specialist Shane Flynn believes he can cure Hearts midfielder Peter Haring inside a week – and is willing to assess him for free.

The Austrian is visiting a top doctor this week having been sidelined by injury for the last ten months. Several consultants have hitherto been unable to relieve ongoing pain in his pelvis/groin area, with osteitis pubis the suspected cause.

Flynn, based around 45 minutes from Dublin in Mullingar, County Westmeath, has offered to intervene and assist Hearts. He has helped dozens of sportsmen and women return to action – some from supposedly career-ending issues.

Fascinated with Haring’s story, he is convinced he would get the 26-year-old training without pain in a matter of days using his own treatment and rehabilitation procedures.

He said his methods helped Gaelic footballer Conor McManus return to action after being told he needed hip surgery or a possible replacement. Another GAA player, James O’Donoghue, also visited Flynn and became pain-free after years of persistent injuries.

Flynn told the Evening News he treated around 70 athletes in the last year with similar issues to Haring. “I would have Peter back inside the first week with a guarantee that, before I leave, the pain will be gone and he will be sprinting on a treadmill,” said the Irishman.

“I can only go with what I see and it would appear to be no different to the rest of the guys I have seen with this problem. I just want to have a look, no pressure. I’m not looking to be the next Man United physio. Anyone looking for testimonials of my work can find plenty on my website and Instagram.

“I’ve assessed at so many high-level athletes for free who were adamant they couldn’t be cured, based on information from top consultants in Ireland. Upon completion of treatment and 80 to 90 per cent improvement, they are more than happy to pay their fee.

“I won’t charge them unless I can make a miraculous improvement. When I make a difference, they then pay a fee. It’s not a lot for the change they feel. I’ve never had a case I can’t fix yet.

“I want to help clubs in the Premiership get more from their players and prevent injuries. It would save them a lot of money. The methods are different but they work.

“I’ve had lots of guys who have been told they have osteitis pubis walk in and they can’t believe it because they are soon running pain-free. The guys who come to me are 100 per cent unplayable.

“I’ve cured people who have been out for up to three years. My treatment process takes about three hours in total. I have an audio-visual treatment first, which is all about calming the nervous system and relaxing the tissue. Then I realign the person completely.

“I can see complete realignments in posture and all the work that needs to be done. I do microcurrent treatments, there are some chiropractic manipulations, and after that is the rehab.

“People tell me regularly they have never done this type of rehab before. They’ve done typical industry rehab like glut work, stretching or rest. I have a really busy gym and a lot of athletes come in. I’ve studied the human kinetic chain and trialled things through treating people for free. A lot of my work is based around the human kinetic chain.

“Since September last year, I’ve treated about 60 people a week. I even had a woman who was in a wheelchair for nine months and she is now back at the gym five days a week. She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and all sorts of hip issues.

“I had my own injuries and I went to every clinic in the country. None of them could fix me. They all said the same thing, offered the same treatment processes and routines.

“Especially when you get to the end and you’re told: ‘We’ve tried everything. We can’t fix this. Let’s just operate or else we will keep injecting.’ Or they tell you just to retire.

“I fixed my own hip in one night. I didn’t know the outcome, I just tried it based on what I’d learned.”

Osteitis pubis is caused by inflammation of the pubic symphysis and can take up to nine months to subside. Hearts are unable to pinpoint when Haring might be fit and are trying everything to help him recover.

“Nowhere in the world will tell you that osteitis pubis can be cured inside three months. Some people are up to nine months,” said Flynn. “I’ve had athletes come to me from high-level sports. They walk in the door in agony. They are limping. Before they leave, they are sprinting as hard as they can and they are 100 per cent pain-free.

“Some of them go back to their clubs and the managers don’t believe them. I’ve had to ring managers and explain the work I’m doing.

“I’ve also had people walk in with arthritis in an ankle which, apparently, all the MRIs in the world have shown. I might find something in the shoulder, for example, from an old shoulder injury which is inhibiting the body.

“If I follow this link from the shoulder all the way to the foot, I release the foot for the first time and they no longer have arthritis. They are walking around pain-free and are back living a normal life.”

Flynn stated many injuries are caused by deep-rooted muscles which he focuses heavily on when treating people. “It’s the flexors in our bodies that cause all our problems, but the whole world is focused on the extensor muscles – gluts, traps, lower back, mid-back, hamstrings.

“What they are all missing is that the issues are coming from deep in the flexors. The flexors are all the adductor muscles, the insides of the groin, the deep stomach muscles inside the pelvis and the deep muscles underneath the armpit. When you sneeze, that’s a flexor contracting. That’s how powerful they are.

“I’m here to explain why every athlete is having repetitive hamstring strains. I can show you why. I don’t want people to fear me. I don’t want to take anyone’s job. I just want to help. I want to see an athlete on that treadmill sprinting pain-free again. That’s why I do this.”

The cases of O’Donoghue, who plays with Kerry, and McManus of Monaghan are two of the most high-profile Flynn has been involved with. Both GAA players made full recoveries from their respective ailments.

“I reached out to James because he hadn’t actually strung three to four training sessions back-to-back in five years,” explained Flynn. “People were saying his injury looked career-ending.

“His team were in the All-Ireland final last year and he came to see me three nights before that game. I spent two to three hours with him and he went back and told his manager he was flying.

“Now, of course, the manager was thinking, ‘he is only saying this to get into the All-Ireland final’. The final went to a replay and James, by then, had trained for seven sessions in a row. He came on and played. He’s made it through the winter injury-free and he is now ripping lads asunder.

“Conor was facing very early retirement due to deterioration of his hip. Athletes who persist playing with this are looking at hip replacement in later years.

“I called him asking for 20 minutes of his time and if I couldn’t help I would walk away. After 20 minutes, he said there was definitely a major improvement and it was different from what he had been doing.

“We worked together for one extensive session lasting two to three hours, plus one or two follow-ups. The next time I saw him he was in action on TV with people saying he was performing better than he had done in years.

“I worked as a strength and conditioning coach for ten years and I’ve trained Olympic athletes, world-champion power-lifters, cyclists and others. I got fed up training these people because, when they got injured, I put my faith in someone else and they couldn’t fix them.”
