Hearts defender Ben Garuccio has pledged his future to the club despite the current uncertainty as to which division the club will be playing in.

The Tynecastle team face an unsettled period with the future of the current Scottish Premiership season unclear, while league reconstruction is discussed and debated.

If the top flight was to follow the Championship and Leagues One and Two in being terminated on a points per game basis, Hearts would be demoted. Although, they could be saved by a league revamp with chairman Ann Budge heading a task force.

Either way, left-back Garuccio remains committed to the club no matter the division they are playing in.

The Australian joined in the summer of 2018 but played just six times before the league’s postponement having missed most of the campaign due to a ligament injury.

“The club is doing everything they can,” he told the Daily Record. “I want to help the club. Hearts have been good for me, they gave me the chance to fulfil my dream of playing in Europe.

“I have a contract for another year after this and wherever Hearts are I’ll remain 100 per cent committed.”

While Garuccio admitted the performances haven’t been good enough this season, he and the team believed they would be able to secure survival on the pitch.

“It is a funny situation. In everybody’s heads we thought we would be playing 38 games. We didn’t see the scenario that we could be relegated without kicking another ball.

“I know we were bottom at the time but in our minds there were still a lot of games to be played and we had a right good chance of getting out of this.

“We are confident we will get ourselves out of this position if the matches are played. What we don’t want is people to say the season is finished as it is and Hearts are down and relegated.

“I think everybody will look back at this period in 10 years’ time and think how crazy this situation was.”
