Hearts winger Lewis Moore has revealed he suffered “horrible” abuse from Hibs fans during last week’s Edinburgh derby.

Substituted with a hamstring injury 16 minutes from the end of Hearts’ 3-1 win, he endured a torrent of verbals walking round the edge of the Easter Road pitch.

He left the field on the far touchline in front of the East Stand, accompanied by the club physio Karen Gibson. Moore admitted he could hear the unsavoury comments from Hibs supporters.

"I could not see anything – though obviously I could hear it. That happened until after the game. It was not nice. It is what it is,” said the player, named in the Scotland Under-21 squad this week.

Moore walked on the outside of the physio as they made their way back to the technical area. "It was horrible, man. I was protecting her,” he smiled. “It should not be allowed in football. But you are going to get it in that type of game.”

He conceded that he does have some friends who are Hibs fans. "A few. But they would have hit me with the coin,” he joked.

Moore and his Hearts colleague Andy Irving were named in Scot Gemmill’s Scotland Under-21 squad for the first time on Tuesday.

Hibs striker Jamie Gullan was also called up ahead of European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Croatia and Greece.

The Croatia tie takes place at Tynecastle Park on March 27 before a meeting with Greece on the island of Crete four days later.
