Just two Hearts players have been named in the SPFL Championship team of the year – despite the Tynecastle Park side winning the league by 12 points.

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who is currently away with Scotland on international duty, and striker Liam Boyce were the two Gorgie representatives in the selection – with Premiership play-off winners Dundee and third-place Raith Rovers contributing three players apiece.

Despite Hearts’ relative canter to the league flag Gordon was a vital part of the team, rolling back the years as the shot-stopper – in sight of his forties – pulled off a number of fine saves.

In 29 games in all competitions the former Celtic No.1 kept 15 clean sheets and conceding just 22 goals.

Boyce, meanwhile, was the division’s top scorer but put in a power of work both as a striker and as a number ten, and added seven assists to his 14 goals in just 25 league appearances.

Charlie Adam, Lee Ashcroft, and Paul McMullan were the Dens Park representatives while Raith contributed Regan Hendry, Kieran MacDonald, and Reghan Tumilty.

The Stark's Park side reached the play-offs but were beaten on aggregate by James McPake’s Dundee at the semi-final stage after disposing of Dunfermline in the quarter-finals.

The rest of the players included were Ayo Obileye of Queen of the South, now Livingston; Daniel Mackay of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, whose form sealed him a move to Hibs, and Obileye’s Palmerston team-mate Connor Shields who also landed a summer move to Motherwell.
