Danny vows to put on a show for fans

DANNY GRAINGER today vowed Hearts will put on a strong performance for their travelling fans in tomorrow night’s Europa League play-off second-leg clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The full-back admits the Jambos showed their Barclays Premier League opponents too much respect during last Thursday’s 5-0 thumping at Tynecastle and has revealed the Gorgie squad’s determination to restore some pride at White Hart Lane.

The 25-year-old said: “I think first of all we just have to reinstall some pride into the team and the club.

“All the boys know we let, not just ourselves, but the fans down last week and hopefully we can go down there and rectify it and put in a good performance.

“They showed they are a top team. On Monday they gave as good as they got against probably one of the best teams in the world in Manchester United.

“But, looking back at the game, we probably did show them too much respect.

“Once we got a bit closer to them in the second half and actually had a go at them I think we showed we are a lot better than what we showed in the first half.

“So it was very disappointing to come away with a 5-0 defeat like that.

“If you look at our strongest boys against their strongest boys, it’s men against boys.

“Hopefully we go out there and put on a performance that can show that we are a challenge for anyone.

“Obviously the first leg was very disappointing.

“We let ourselves down and we let the fans down and hopefully we can put that right, put on a good performance and get a result for the fans to enjoy.”
