Williamson gives Obua a striking role

Victory over Kenya in Kampala would mean a historic achievement for Uganda, managed by former Hibs manager Bobby Williamson, and Obua is likely to be the focal point of their attack for the Group J qualifier at Namboole Stadium.

Although he is primarily used in midfield by Hearts, the 27-year-old is the main source of goals for his country with a ratio of one every two games. He is expected to partner Geoffrey Massa in attack.

“David has now trained with us for the first time since arriving and he has come through that session okay. He is looking good,” said Williamson, whose popularity in Uganda would increase tenfold if he guides the country to the African Nations Cup.

“This game means everything to me. I want it for the fans as they have supported us well in the few years I’ve been here. I don’t contemplate defeat. I always look in a positive way.

“Nobody in coaching knows more about the game in Uganda than I do now. Hopefully we’ll beat Kenya and this will be the catalyst for Ugandan football to progress further. I know how vital the match is and we’ll be ready for it.”

Hype surrounding the game has reached fever pitch in Uganda and tickets are now officially sold out. However, some are changing hands amongst fans for as much as double their original value. Tickets priced at £128 are now selling for over £250, according to sources in Africa.
