Wilson knows full well a great chance of glory went begging at Hampden

DANNY WILSON admitted 
today that he felt Hearts 
passed up a great chance of Scottish Communities League Cup glory.

The Jam Tarts grabbed an early lead through Ryan 
Stevenson and missed chances to increase it before Saints hit back.

The defender said: “St Mirren took their chances and we didn’t. We were on top for the first half hour, but could only score one.

“They hit back before half-time and the game just went away from us.

“If you don’t take your chances, you are always going to be punished.”

Wilson was sent off playing 
for Rangers in his previous League Cup final against 
the Buddies in 2010 – 
and he admits he won’t have fond memories of this one 
either.

He reckons it’s a loss 
that will haunt him and his Jambos team-mates. He ­added: “I can’t remember St ­Mirren having too many more 
chances than the ones they scored.

“We didn’t get going 
again until they scored their third goal. And that costs 
you, especially in games like this.

“When Ryan hit the second goal we were pushing at the end.

“But it should have been 
2-0 for us before St Mirren scored.

“It’s not something we’ll want to remember.”
