Livingston midfielder Jason Holt vows to do "everything in his power" to halt cup final heartache after Hearts, Rangers losses

Jason Holt reckons players are lucky to play in one final. The Musselburgh-born midfielder is preparing to play in his third major final for three different sides despite only turning 28 earlier this month.

He also appeared for Rangers in their 2016 Petrofac Cup final win over Peterhead. While not a major final, nearly 50,000 packed into Hampden that afternoon – it remains his only cup winners’ medal.

A few weeks later Holt experienced the ultimate heartache of losing the Scottish Cup final to Hibs after a last-minute David Gray header. He also lost out by the odd goal in five when Hearts took on St Mirren in the League Cup final eight years ago. He is now hoping it can be a case of third time lucky back at Hampden in the same competition with Livingston on Sunday against St Johnstone.

“I was massively disappointed (v Hibs) so I just want to make sure that I don’t feel like that again,” he said. “It was horrible so I want to be on the right end of things on Sunday.”

He had just turned 20 when he came off the bench in the League Cup final in March 2013. “I just remember the occasion, the build-up, it is cup final week and there is a bit of a buzz,” he said. “Then, obviously, the final itself...it was just a massive disappointment that you come out on the wrong end. I want to do everything in my power to come out on the right end this time.”
