A lot of Scottish Premiership sides are on the lookout for bargain free transfers and loans and Hearts are no different.
However, they have paid big transfer fees in the past to bolster their ranks. The Edinburgh outfit finished 3rd in the table last season behind Celtic and Rangers and are preparing for the start of the season. Steven Naismith has had the chance to bring in some more players over the last couple of months.
The new campaign starts next month and first up is a home clash against Rangers. In the meantime, here is a look at Hearts’ most expensive XI...

9. LM: Juho Mäkelä (£500K)
Moving the forward out left. He didn't do much to justify the half-million they handed HJK Helsinki. Best remembered for scoring against Barcelona in a pre-season friendly. | SNS Group

10. ST: John Robertson (£625K)
Didn't too badly for himself at Hearts... best known for his two spells in maroon, totalling about 18 years, where he is the club's all-time leading goalscorer. Robertson earned the moniker "The Hammer of Hibs" as he scored a record 27 goals in Edinburgh derbies v Hibs. A brief stint at Newcastle was sandwiched between his maroon stints. Photo: Third Party

11. ST: Iain Ferguson (£350K)
Equalled the club-record transfer fee in 1988. All worth it for that strike against Bayern. Photo: SNS Group
