Neilson has been accused of using “offensive, insulting and abusive language” and has until June 14 to respond.

Neilson was dismissed by referee Calum Murray shortly after Hearts had a penalty claim rejected when Osman Sow went down under a challenge from referee Cammy Bell late in the first half of his side’s 2-2 Scottish Championship draw on Saturday.

After the game, Neilson said: ‘’To be honest, I don’t think it was a penalty. There were a few other things building up before that that I thought were dubious to say the least.

“It was the first time I’ve been sent to the stand for shouting at an opposition player.”
