Osman Sow today revealed he would love a return to Hearts and is willing to go on trial to prove himself after being released by Dundee United.

The Swedish striker, 30, told the Evening News he would be at Riccarton waiting with his boots if offered the opportunity to earn himself a deal.

Hearts sold Sow to the Chinese side Henan Jianye for more than £1million in February 2016, but he is now a free agent after newly-promoted United chose not to extend his contract.

Sow said he would jump at the chance to rejoin the Edinburgh club even if they are forced to accept relegation to the Championship.

He originally signed for Hearts in Scotland's second tier in 2014 and helped secure a record-breaking promotion that season.

He would have no issue playing at that level again and expects to be fully fit in a month after an Achilles injury suffered back in February.

"I feel for Hearts because of what has happened. I really like the club and it is difficult for them just now but I am sure they will bounce back. Hearts is a good club," said Sow.

"The fans at Tynecastle really took me to their hearts and I tried to give everything for them. I'm very thankful for the time I had at Hearts.

"If a trial or anything was to come up, I would be there waiting outside the dressing room with my boots. I really enjoyed my football with Hearts and I had a great time there.

"Football keeps moving and changing all the time. Right now, I'm getting into good shape. I've been doing a lot of training during the lockdown and I'm feeling really good.

"I'm back running now. I miss football and I want to get back playing regularly. In a month's time, I will be good to go."

Hearts will release players this summer to reduce the size of their first-team squad, but it is unclear at the moment whether they will add to their attacking options.

United manager Robbie Neilson, who signed Sow at Hearts, MK Dons and then Tannadice, informed the player earlier this month that his contract would not be renewed.

Sow explained that he left Tayside frustrated as injuries impacted his time there and his loan spell at Kilmarnock earlier this season.

"I went to Kilmarnock and then I tore a ligament in my foot," he said. "I was out for two months and when I came back there was only one month left on the loan.

"I went back to Dundee United and tried to revive my career there. In my second start, I ruptured my Achilles. It's been difficult. I feel I had more to give to United and I could not get the chance, even though it was not down to me.

"I felt I never really got going because of injuries. I couldn't really show United what I could do. I am happy they got promoted and I enjoyed my time at Tannadice.

"It's a very good dressing room and I enjoy working with Robbie, so I am happy for them. It was Robbie who told me about the contract.

"If a club don't want me, that's fine and I move on. I believe in myself and I just need a little run without injuries now."

Sow has spent the coronavirus lockdown in Scotland with his family and is waiting to see what offers may arise over the summer. "I'm focused on my fitness and waiting on the world to be in a healthier place," he added.

"Obviously I am out of contract so I will need to look into my future. Right now, I am waiting until things are a bit more normal."
