Despite the team’s lead at the top of the Championship, supporters have not had a lot to get excited about, especially recently.

However, the dominant performance against the league’s bottom side was impressive, both collectively and individually.

@HeartsRant: “The champions-elect march on to league championship glory. Just three points are now required to seal our return to the top flight and begin our Premiership title charge. It’s been an awful few months, and it the anger doesn’t just dissipate after one win. But, equally, if you cannot acknowledge an excellent win then you end up looking petty. We all love this club and should be able to enjoy and appreciate a win. It’s abundantly clear that Neilson will remain for the summer and into next season. But the need for board room and structural change remains. Massive summer once we get out of this b*****d division.”

@maroonspecs: “You can't complain about us failing to beat part-time teams and then turn round and say "it's only [part-time team]" when we wipe the floor with them. That's not how it works. Credit where it's due - that was a brilliant performance tonight. There was a lot to like about tonight. Souttar strolling his first game back unscathed; 2018 Peter Haring coming back to the future and bossing it (I'll have dirty dreams about *that* pass tonight); Henderson showing there may be something worth developing; Boycey's match ball. Most importantly, it was nice to watch a Hearts game and not come away completely depressed. Tried building a tricycle for my daughter's first birthday tomorrow which was stressful enough, so I'd like to thank the Hearts players for not adding to that for once.”

@lauriedunsire: “Actually seeing John Souttar on the pitch, Hearts strolling it, Haring looking like Haring again, attacks, tempo, goals, more goals, a good performance on a Friday night! One result vs bottom of the table doesn't solve everything but I'm just pleased to actually enjoy a game!”

@ThisMyStoryPod: “We looked ropey out of possession opening twenty. Souttar not playing for years and the change of shape the reasons for that. After that we were everything we want the team to be. Pace, tempo, aggression. Haring was superb. Boyce movement is so underrated. Halliday great as well.”

@HeartsGoals: “In all honesty, recent poor performances and results aside… Albeit against Alloa, absolutely dominant tonight, great performance, clean sheet, Boyce hattrick, Souttar back. One win away from a premiership return. It’s a great time to be a Hearts fan. Only way is up!”

@siwypod: “Can we play on the iPlayer every week.”

@ddharron: “Seeing John Souttar back playing football was great. A top talent & hopefully that’s his injury days over.”

@RFBorthwick: “Alloa were absolute pony but still, it’s nice to leave a Hearts game with little to no complaints. McEneff and Haring as a midfield two looked promising, Boyce is the best player in the league, Henderson did really well, Souttar is back. Nice. Enjoyable.”

@Real_C_Wilson: “Brilliant to see @JohnSouttar back in the maroon jersey. A top player.”
