Premiership boss makes Hearts and Hibs budgets claim as deploys finances comparison amid impressive season

Hearts face the Premiership top six chasing outfit this weekend who recently got the better of Hibs.

John McGlynn has compared his budget at Falkirk to Hearts, Hibs and more as the Bairns enjoy a super return to the Premiership.

The ex-Jambos boss has guided his team to League One and Championship glory while at the helm, now in the midst of a top six battle. Falkirk lost 3-2 against Dundee United at the weekend but they still have an 11-point cushion on Jim Goodwin's side and Aberdeen, in the hunt for top half positioning.

They recently defeated fifth-placed Hibs 4-1 and come to Tynecastle for a clash with Hearts this weekend. The Bairns gaffer has earned plenty of plaudits for his work and doing so on a smaller budget to others in the division has him showering stars in navy with praise.

What is Falkirk’s budget compared to Hearts, Hibs and more?

McGlynn said: "After five years in League One there were a lot of cutbacks here. We brought in guys who'd been playing in League One as we tried to get ourselves up the leagues. So we've come into this division with the lowest budget, I would say by a country mile, especially if you consider the likes of Hibs and Aberdeen.

"You've always got the two Glasgow teams and the two Edinburgh teams and then Aberdeen. I classify them as the biggest five teams in Scotland and Dundee United aren't a million miles after that. So to be in there mixing it with them, it's an enormous credit to this group of players. We're still finding our feet again as a club. We've been trying to go up the levels and now it's about staying up there.

"The challenge will be repeating whatever we do this season. If we can do this year on year, we can get the infrastructure and everything we need in place. We can't slide back. The ambition is consolidation at this level. We're in a great position right now and if you look at St Mirren when they went back up into the Premiership, they were probably at a similar stage to us.

John McGlynn on Falkirk 2-3 Dundee United

"They have flirted with the bottom end of the league at times, but they have become consistent, getting into the top six regularly, getting Europe and they've won a cup. They've shown what can be done and that needs to be the ambition of this club now."

Dundee United defeated Falkirk after a red card for defender Liam Henderson, who is now suspended for the clash in Gorgie, and Jambos loanee Lewis Neilson is also ineligible. McGlynn said after the defeat: "I don't think we deserved to lose the game. We've scored two cracking goals. We make an error for their goal, which allowed Dundee United to get back in the game.

"Second half, we lose another very, very quick equaliser, which I'm really disappointed about. From scoring that goal to losing the goal, it's far too quick. We have to do better than that. And then it's 11 men against 10. Disappointed that we didn't deal with that better. We don't do enough to keep the ball out the back of the net, basically. I don't think we deserved to lose. We've been on a good run. We're not going to beat ourselves up. We have a heady schedule. I think we've played four games in the period that United have not played at all. So we can't be too harsh on ourselves."
