Hearts face Rangers at Tynecastle in the Scottish Cup quarter-final for the first time in a quarter of a century. That meeting is one of the most memorable domestic cup games for many fans of a certain generation. Played under the lights at a ground which was undergoing renovation, the Jam Tarts took a two-goal half-time lead through Colin Miller and Dave McPherson before being pegged back by the visitors. However, goals from John Robertson and Kevin Thomas secured passage to the semi-final. We look back at the players involved in the win.
1. Craig Nelson
Henry Smith was on the bench. Nelson, 23 at the time, was signed at the start of the season and made 20 appearances that campaign before leaving for Falkirk in 1996. Photo: SNS Group
2. Stephen Frail
Signed in a six-figure deal from Dundee in March 1994. Was a regular during the 94/95 season. Left in 1998 and would go on to manage the team during a difficult period under Vladimir Romanov. Photo: SNS Group
3. Colin Miller
Opened the scoring in the match with a daisy cutter of a free-kick. Had an interesting career which included spells in Canada. He got 61 caps for the Canadian National Team. Photo: JPIMedia
4. Craig Levein
A classy centre-back whose time at Hearts as player was hampered by injuries. Was infamously sent off in a pre-season match that season for punching team-mate Graeme Hogg. Managed the team in two different spells. Photo: SNS Group
