Robbie Neilson hopes to sign at least one more new recruit at Hearts but admitted he would also need to move a player out to create space in the squad.

The Edinburgh club are interested in former Hull City and Swansea City left-back Stephen Kingsley, who is training with Falkirk as a free agent.

He can still join a new club after Scotland’s transfer window closes at midnight tonight and is waiting to see whether Hearts make a formal contract offer.

Manager Neilson told the Evening News that he would need to negotiate an outgoing transfer in order to bring someone else in after seven new signings since June.

“Possibly we could do something. If we do, then I’ll need to move one out,” he said. “There has been interest in a few of the younger ones regarding loan deals, which is something we’re looking at.

“We need to get them out and get them playing given the age they’re at. Those loans can be done after the window closes, so there is no real rush on it.”

Neilson has brought in goalkeepers Craig Gordon and Ross Stewart, defender Mihai Popescu, midfielder Andy Halliday and wingers Jordan Roberts, Elliott Frear and Josh Ginnelly since returning to Tynecastle Park in the summer.

He would like to strengthen the left-back area by signing Scotland internationalist Kingsley and has not ruled out adding another striker at some point.

Hearts begin their competitive season on Tuesday night when Inverness Caledonian Thistle visit Edinburgh in the Betfred Cup.
