SPFL club 'pleased' after transfer deal agreed with Hearts as player makes second move this summer

The player joined Hearts earlier this summer and now departs for experience.

A Hearts player signed this summer has joined Arbroath on a season-long loan deal, the clubs have confirmed.

Winger Cormac Daly returned to Scotland last month with the Premiership side from Gorgie after time in the Nottingham Forest academy. Last term, senior experience was built at Lincoln United and Hereford, having initially moved south after promise shown with Hamilton Accies. Daly’s first 12 months of a two-year Hearts deal will be spent at Gayfield playing Championship football.

He debut in Saturday’s night Premier Sports Cup group stage defeat to Dundee United after featuring in some of Hearts’ pre-season friendlies under head coach Wouter Vrancken. Hearts said of the move: “Cormac Daly has joined Arbroath on loan for season 26/27, subject to Scottish FA approval. All the best at Gayfield, Cormac.”

Why have Arbroath signed Cormac Daly?

An Arbroath statement reads: “Welcome Cormac! “Arbroath Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Cormac Daly from Premiership side Heart of Midlothian. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder joins on loan until the end of the season, having recently signed for the Gorgie club from Nottingham Forest.

“Daly, who began his career at Hamilton Academical, spent three years in England featuring heavily at youth level for Forest, as well as a formative loan spell with Hereford before deciding to return to Scotland with Hearts. Daly will wear the number 19 shirt for the Lichties. Welcome to Gayfield, Cormac!”

Daly said upon joining Hearts earlier this summer: “I’m absolutely buzzing. I got a phone call from Hearts, and I talked to some of the people at the club about what they're trying to do here, and they have a good plan. It's something that I really wanted to be part of, and it really excited me. I know James Wilson, Gus Stevenson and Matt Gillies, I've known them for a number of years, so it'll be good to meet up with them again.

Why has Cormac Daly joined Hearts?

“As a player I'd say I’m direct, quick, just a bit of flair, just a really attacking winger really. I enjoyed my time at Nottingham Forest. It was three years of my life that went by fast but being there, away from home, helped me to develop both on and off the pitch.

“Going out on loan was a big thing for me too, in terms of being able to get a taste of senior football. I enjoyed it and I’m thankful I got to do it. Moving to England three years ago was a step up for me but I’d like to think I proved I could handle it, so the challenge is now to prove once again that I can handle coming to a massive club like Hearts.”
