Frail teams up with new United boss Mickey Mellon, who came in after predecessor Robbie Neilson left for Hearts.

Frail, pictured right, played for the Jambos between 1994 and 1998 and had a spell as joint and caretaker boss in 2008 at Tynecastle.

Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough said: “I’m delighted for Stephen to get this opportunity.

“He has been a real asset for the development of our underage groups and the association as a whole.

“We wish him every success in this new and exciting role.”
