Stephen Kingsley freely admits that he is “loving every second at Hearts” – but further talks on a new contract will wait until at least next month.

The 26-year-old left-back signed a one-year deal with the Jambos at the start of October following his release from Hull City and has been one the most consistent performers for the club this season.

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson wants the former Falkirk and Swansea player, who has been capped once for Scotland, to extend his stay at Tynecastle and with the Stirling-born defender entering the final six months of his contract, he will be able to speak to other teams at the start of January.

Kingsley expressed his contentment with life in Gorgie after scoring the opening goal in the 5-3 Championship victory over Ayr United, but will not discuss his future right now as he wants to focus on getting through a hectic festive fixture list.

“It was a case of getting the final out of the way and just focusing on the games coming up, because it's a massive time for any team that is going for the league,” said Kingsley when pressed on his contract situation. “My sole focus has been playing these games. I didn't want to cloud anything and the gaffer even agreed with me that it's the best thing to do.

"In January and February, that's when things will hopefully get moving and we'll be deciding what we want to do. That's where we're going to be in the next month or two. I just want to focus on doing the best for this team and dealing with that stuff later. I'm in a really fortunate position. I'm here until the end of the season, which is amazing, so I can take it as it comes.

"I'm genuinely loving every second of it, and have been since the moment I walked through the door. That's why I want to focus so much on doing the best out there, because I want to repay the fans, the club, for giving me the opportunity. I genuinely couldn't tell you how much I love it."
