'The new Robbo', 'Robbie played a blinder', '2020 is messed up' - Hearts fans delight at Craig Wighton hat-trick and win

Hearts fans were equally delighted and mystified with a Craig Wighton hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Raith Rovers which sees the team move on to nine points from nine in the Betfred Cup ahead of the league opener with Dundee on Friday.

@maroonspecs: “For all the mumping and moaning about the starting line-up, we looked somewhat shakier with the more experienced guys on in the latter stages. Still, good value for the win in the end. Wighton deserving of the match ball. Cochrane and McGill impressively comfortable. Neilson's reaction to Wighton's third says it all: he's knows he's got a selection headache for Friday. Boyce is obviously the better striker but when a player like Wighton is still building up his confidence, dropping him after a hat-trick would seem incredibly harsh. Also hope this is the start of Harry Cochrane featuring more. A highly entertaining player to watch when he's on it. That pass out to Frear in the first half was Scholes-esque. Absolutely sublime.”

@226Ando: “Just ordered the full strip with Wighton on the back. The new Robbo. Hall of fame here we come.”

@RFBorthwick: “Craig Wighton prepared for tonight’s game by reading the entire transcript from the summer’s legal proceedings. He has ticked a club off his list. He is hungry for more.”

@ZcBkr: “Delighted for this guy - not done the business yet but maybe a big slice of confidence and he’ll come good. Well done lad!”

@dannynicoll: “Took his chance tonight and deserved it. Hard working lad and hopefully gives him confidence going forward to produce in the league.”

@marsh_ross: “I for one am firmly on board the Wighton bus. The Wightonbus is coming and everybody's jumping.”

@perthtopaisley: “Well done for not giving in when so many would’ve done! Here’s hoping that’s the first, second and third of many.”

@meestah_sahmon: “Just a personal preference but Cochrane looks much better than Irving taking in balls in tight positions, but Irving's range is obviously > than Cochrane's. A nice headache to have.”

@Amoruso1998: “Good tempo tonight with major plus points being Stewart, Kingsley, Haring, McGill and Wighton. 3 out of 3 and attentions turn to Friday now. A repeat of this tantrum from McGowan will be good news for us”

@JordanFinlayso1: “Probably as weak a team were likely to use all season and saw the game through comfortably, excellent performance onto Friday now.”

@EwanFisher3: “Robbie played a blinder with his team selection. Plenty energy from the young lads and amazing for Wighton getting the goals. Haring playing 90mins as well.”

@mark2222011: “Unbeaten run continues. Wighton is the new Messi. Happy days.”
