'Towering' star completes Hearts transfer after 'crazy few months' as message sent to Jambos over done deal

Hearts have completed their latest summer transfer.

Beau Reus insists the exciting feeling provided to him by Hearts is a key driver behind his transfer to the Premiership side.

The 6ft 6in goalkeeper has joined Wouter Vrancken’s side on a contract until 2029 after four years in Belgium at Beveren. He helped them secure a return to the top flight of Belgian football last season but was out of contract amid reported interest from Germany and Spain. Reus has now opted for Tynecastle as his next step ahead of their Champions League second round qualifier first leg versus Sturm Graz next week.

Reus came through the AZ Alkmaar academy in his native Netherlands before joining Beveren in 2022. He has sent a fond farewell to his former side after a memorable end to his final season there as a Gorgie message is sent ahead of arriving in Scotland. Hearts face Rayo Vallecano in a friendly on Friday night at Tynecastle and Reus is their latest signing this summer after Josh McPake, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Tom Renaud, MJ Kamson-Kamara, Amadou Ba-Sy, Calvin Miller, Sabri Guendouz and youngster Cormac Daly.

Why has Beau Reus joined Hearts?

He wrote on social media: “Where should I start? First of all I want to thank everyone in SK Beveren, from the fans, board and team mates to the support at home. What a four years it has been. I think we reached all the goals that we had and I wish you all the best in the next season. It’s been a crazy last few months where Heart of Midlothian give me such a good feeling and I am exited to give my all for the club. We will see each other very soon.”

A statement from Hearts reads: “Heart of Midlothian is delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Beau Reus. The towering Dutchman joins the Jambos as a free agent, penning a three-year deal subject to international clearance, and visa and Scottish FA approval.

“24-year-old Beau, who stands at 6’6” tall, has spent the past four years in Belgium as Beveren’s no.1. He began his career his Dutch side AZ, coming through their youth system before making his professional debut in 2020 for Jong AZ, their reserve team who compete in Netherlands’ second tier.

Why have Hearts signed Beau Reus?

“Promoted to AZ’s first team in 2021, he made 31 appearances for Jong AZ before making the move to Belgium in 2022. His first campaign in Flanders ended with the nearest of near misses as they were pipped to the Challenger Pro League title by one point with RWD Molenbeek triumphing. Season 24/25 saw a fourth-place finish with the third best goals-against record in the league, but Beveren would go on to lose in the semi-finals of the promotion play-offs.

“Last year brought success, with Beveren storming to the league title to win by 21 points and Beau conceding only 23 goals for the league’s best goals-against record. After 48 shutouts in 126 games in Belgium, Beau now continues his career in Gorgie under Wouter Vrancken.”
