Hearts midfielder Peter Haring has stepped up his injury rehabilitation by returning to light ballwork at the club’s Riccarton training base.

Out for 15 months with persistent groin and hernia issues, the Austrian is progressing well after surgery several weeks ago.

Hearts posted a video on their Twitter account showing Haring in action during a passing exercise as players go through their pre-season programme.

He began running when the team resumed training at the start of the month and has now moved on to working with the football.

It is a sight which will give supporters much encouragement ahead of the new season, which for Hearts will start competitively in the Betfred Cup in October.

Haring last featured for the Edinburgh club in the 2019 Scottish Cup final and has since been sidelined with ongoing pain in his pelvic area.

He underwent a hernia operation in early June which enabled him to run without pain for the first time. It is hoped he could take part in some of Hearts’ pre-season friendlies, provided he does not suffer any setback.

For the moment, his rehab will continue to progress gradually as the club allow him the necessary time to regain full fitness.
