Why Hearts and Hibs games could be broadcast on Saturdays at 3pm

Hearts and Hibs fans will be able to watch their teams live on TV at 3pm on a Saturday if the current season returns.

The TV blackout which has been part and parcel of Scottish football for years is no longer in place.

Uefa have lifted the ban on broadcasting live matches between 2:45pm and 5:15pm only on Saturday as they hope to finish the current season in July and August.

The governing body see closed door games as a possible solution to allow campaigns to be played until a conclusion. Albeit, very much dependent on advice from governments and health officials.

The blackout has been lifted for the remainder of this season only so fans could watch their team live on a Saturday.

In a statement, UEFA said: "UEFA has lifted the 'blocked hours' protection granted to England and Scotland for the remainder of the 2019-20 season following requests from the relevant national associations as a result of measures taken in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The blackout has been in place to boost crowds and protect clubs from losing gate receipts.

It could mean Sky Sports and BT Sport broadcast games on Saturday afternoon for the remaining eight fixture cards.
