Hibees hat-trick hero Abi Harrison believes league is still wide open

The teenage striker was on red-hot form as her goals swept aside Forfar Farmington at Albyn Park and kept up Chris Roberts’ side’s pursuit of league glory this year.

The Hibees head into a five-week break just two points adrift of league leaders Glasgow City and seven points better off than third-placed Celtic.

However, Harrison believes it is far too early to rule out any of the other sides in SWPL 1 firing themselves into contention.

“You need to be aware of every side in the division,” the 18-year-old said. “There has already been some shocks this season and although there is a bit of gap between ourselves and Celtic, that only takes a few results to change everything. They’ve got a really good team this year. But as long as we keep picking up the three points then we should be fine.

“I was really chuffed to score the goals on Sunday but it was more important that the team took all three points. It was a good performance as the league has been a lot more competitive this year. Being one of the top teams, other sides are starting to really prepare for us so that makes it harder in itself.

“Hopefully we can continue that momentum when we come back and we can really kick on. I’ve been really happy with how the season has gone so far. I had probably scored more at this point last year but we’ve been much more rounded this season as a team.”

Elsewhere in the division, Spartans Ladies followed up last Sunday’s shock 3-0 win over Glasgow City with a 1-0 triumph over Rangers at Ainslie Park – Louise Mason’s 25-yard effort giving Suzy Shepherd’s side all three points.

In SWPL 2, Hearts ran riot in Glasgow defeating hosts Queens Park 7-1 and Hutchison Vale won 4-2 on the road against Jeanfield Swifts.
