Holt had scored the Easter Road outfit’s second goal, adding to Martin Boyle’s early strike but was thwarted by Saints goalkeeper Jamie Langfield as the 35-year-old stepped up to take a spot-kick after he’d been tripped by Buddies defender Gary Irvine.

The former Norwich City hitman had scored from 12 yards seven days earlier, firing the ball to Dunfermline goalkeeper Sean Murdoch’s right to send Hibs on their way to a 3-1 victory at East End Park and bring an end to a run of five winless matches for the Capital outfit. But against St Mirren, he changed sides, Langfield guessing correctly as he threw himself to his left to push the ball aside.

Lennon said: “Grant practises penalties. He hit them to his left every single day in training and he’d done that the previous week.

“It was a very good performance but I would have liked to have seen a bit of gloss on the scoreline.

“Grant scored a great goal but I wanted the scoreline up, I wanted more.” Meanwhile, Lennon believes Israeli international goalkeeper Ofir Marciano hs brought a “calmness” at the back which has helped Hibs claim six clean sheets in their 11 Championship matches, the Easter Road side having conceded only half-a-dozen goals in those games, a record surpassed only by  English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

The Hibs boss said: “Six clean sheets in 11 games has to be one of the best records in he country and it’s something we are very pleased about. I think the goalkeeper has brought a calmness, his starting positions are good, his handling is good and he is good in ther air. But the defenders in front of him have been outstanding since I came in the door and they have given the team a good platform to build on.”
