Hibs boss: Season-ticket surge will strengthen my squad

Neil Lennon has described Hibs' soaring season-ticket sales as 'amazing' and insists they can only help him as he seeks to strengthen his squad for the Easter Road club's return to the Premiership.

Although the new league season is still almost two months away, sales are already touching 11,500 and set to reach record levels in the coming weeks.

Lennon admitted to being taken aback by the crowds Hibs attracted in his first season as manager, average home gates in the Championship hitting almost 15,400, the best in 44 years, while 19,764 watched the presentation of the trophy following the final game against St Mirren.

The Hibs boss said: “I was surprised a bit particularly given it was the club’s third year in the Championship. It reinforced my view that Hibs are a huge club in Scotland and that there’s lots of potential here.

“The gates last season were very healthy and looking forward to the start of the new campaign the season-ticket sales are amazing.”

Lennon has made his first moves to bring fresh talent to Easter Road, signing midfielder Danny Swanston from St Johnstone and Dundee United striker Simon Murray before clinching a two-year deal for Nigerian international defender Efe Ambrose, who had spent a highly successful few months in Edinburgh on loan from Celtic.

He believes seeing the likes of Ambrose arrive at the club can only help fuel season-ticket sales but admitted the income also aids his bid to strengthen an already healthy looking squad with six of those who were out of contract having penned new deals.

Lennon said: “We’ve brought three in and I’d like more. It all depends on the budget but season-ticket sales obviously help me in doing that.”
