Goalkeeper Mark Oxley is set to quit Hibs and join up with his old boss Phil Brown at Southend United.

Oxley, 25, signed a two-year deal with the Easter Road club last summer but was dropped from the team towards the end of last season in favour of Irish keeper Conrad Logan.

He previously played under Brown at Hull City, making just one first-team appearance, and is due for talks with Southend tomorrow.

Brown told the Southend Echo: “Mark is due to be at the training ground tomorrow and I would be very pleased to get a deal for him done.

“I paid money for him at Hull City when he was about 16 and was very highly rated.

“It would be great to work with him again now he’s developed into a very good goalkeeper.

“He’s got games under his belt for both Oldham and Hibernian but a change in management there has enabled us to get him which is very good news.”

Oxley’s move would leave Hibs head coach Neil Lennon with just one recognised goalkeeper in Finnish stopper Otso Virtanen, who has made just one substitute appearance for the team.
