Hibs Ladies boss hopes break won't wreck title bid

The Hibees are sitting second top just two points adrift of reigning champions Glasgow City but won’t be back in action until the end of July following tomorrow’s home encounter with Forfar Farmington at Albyn Park.

Roberts’ players, though, could end this weekend top should they take maximum points and City fail to win at Aberdeen.

“We’ve found some really good momentum lately but the only downside is that we’re about to go into a month’s break,” said Roberts, whose side thrashed Stirling University 5-0 on Wednesday night. “Some of our girls train nine or ten times a week but we’ll take about ten days off after tomorrow’s match before trying to get at least one friendly in before we return to league action with Celtic at the end of next month.

“Tomorrow will be our fifth game in the space of two weeks so it’s been physically demanding on the players. But they’ve managed it really well and I suppose that shows just how fit the squad is. Obviously with City losing last week to Spartans and then going away to Aberdeen tomorrow, it’s certainly not ideal from their point of view.

“But Forfar are a really good side too despite being joint-second bottom. They are a really well organised unit but also have some quality players like young Amy Gallagher who plays for Scotland Under-19s, so we know it’s not going to be an easy game. But I’m confident the girls will do a professional job and we’ll get the three points. We want to win the league so we’ll be giving it our all to do that.”

Elsewhere, Spartans, buoyed by last weekend’s 3-0 dismantling of City, welcome Rangers to Ainslie Park knowing a win could send them level on points with third-placed Celtic.

In SWPL2, city rivals Hearts travel to Queen’s Park and Hutchison Vale make the trip to Perth to face Jeanfield Swifts.
