Hibs Ladies boss vows to fight for title despite 5-2 loss

Hibernian Ladies boss Willie Kirk said his side will fight all the way in their quest to win the Scottish Women’s Premier League, despite a 5-2 defeat at the weekend against Celtic.

Goals from Laura Kennedy and Kirsty Montignani did little to gloss over what could prove a damaging defeat as Hibs dropped to third in the SWPL table. Kirk said: “The result was a sore one to take, but individual errors proved costly.

“We started well and were leading after two minutes but with just seven minutes played we were we’re 2-1 down. We won’t give up on the title yet, everything is still to play for but we will need to start the second half of the campaign well.”

Elsewhere, there was more heartache for Hutchison Vale as Aberdeen snatched a late victory at Saughton Enclosure.

Hutchie found themselves trailing 2-0 at the interval but goals from Nicola Russell and Steph Briggs saw the home side level before the Dons found a late winner.

Meanwhile, Spartans threw away a two-goal lead against Rangers at Ainslie Park.

The home side led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Claire Crosbie and Sarah Ewens but Suzanne MacTaggart grabbed two goals in as many second-half minutes.
