Hibs Ladies impress boss in Forfar win

Hibs had previously beaten their opponents 6-0 in the SWPL Cup quarter-finals at the end of March, which was their last competitive fixture, and Roberts said: “Forfar were very well organised and played a lot better so it wasn’t an easy game for us at all. We weren’t at our best but to come back from the three-week break and pick up the three points is very impressive.”

Hibs took an early lead after just four minutes through Lizzie Arnot as she cut inside and curled her shot into the top corner.

Lucy Graham made it 2-0 for the Hibees minutes before half-time. Her shot from the edge of the box flew beyond the Forfar keeper and nestled itself into the bottom corner.

The points were secured when Caroline Heron put the visitors 3-0 up on the hour mark with a calm finish after being set up by Abi Grant.

Forfar managed to get a goal back ten minutes later with a sublime volley from Kirsty Deans but in the end the points were heading back down the road with Hibs.

Spartans were looking to bounce back from their 5-1 defeat against Aberdeen before the international break with a trip away to Rangers but found themselves succumbing to a 1-0 defeat.

Alana Marshall had the opportunity to give the visitors the lead from the penalty spot but the Rangers goalkeeper came out on top.

Rangers netted the winner with 20 minutes remaining after Megan Foley, who had been on the field for a matter of minutes as a substitute, found the back of the net.

After the game Spartans player manager Suzy Shepherd said: “We are disappointed with the result. We feel we deserved at least a draw. We had three or four really good opportunities but we were unable to convert our chances. On another day we would put these away. We now regroup.”

In SWPL 2 Hutchison Vale played out a 0-0 draw with Jeanfield Swifts at Saughton. Hearts defeated Queens Park 5-0 with goals from Rebecca Smith, Brogan Anderson, Ashley Carse, Lynsay Millar, and Michaela Mcalonie
