Hibs midfielder Fraser Fyvie a doubt for derby

Fraser Fyvie receives treatment at Cappielow on Tuesday night

The 22-year-old sustained a bad knee knock towards the end of Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Morton at Cappielow. He is still feeling the effects of the injury and faces the prospect of missing this weekend’s eagerly-awaited Scottish Cup fifth-round showdown with Hearts at Tynecastle.

Fyvie has established himself as a key man in Alan Stubbs’ side and would be certain to start the derby if fit. In the event that the former Aberdeen and Wigan Athletic player is unable to recover in time, Marvin Bartley would be the likeliest candidate to step into the anchorman role in a midfield diamond alongside John McGinn, Liam Henderson and Dylan McGeouch.

Stubbs also has the option of using a 3-5-2 formation although that would depend on whether or not centre-back Liam Fontaine proves his fitness. The Englishman went off 12 minutes into the match at Morton after feeling his hamstring tighten. He is deemed more likely than Fyvie to be available for Sunday. If Fontaine doesn’t make it for Sunday, Darren McGregor, who came off the bench to replace him on Tuesday, will retain his place alongside Paul Hanlon.

Meanwhile, Hibs have been given an initial allocation of 25,800 tickets for next month’s League Cup final, with the option of extra subject to demand. Opponents Ross County have been handed 7000 and also have the possibility of obtaining additional briefs if required. Hibs fans will be housed in all four of Hampden’s stands, with County supporters in the West and South Stands. Tickets are priced at £25 for adults and £10 for juveniles. Details of sale will be released in due course.

“We want as many Hibernian supporters as possible to get to the match,” said chief executive Leeann Dempster. “We have spoken to the SPFL and additional blocks of tickets will be made available to us when we require them.”
