The Capital club hadn’t won in the northeast since 2012 and that run continued after early goals from Scott Wright and Sam Cosgrove effectively ended the match as a contest after just 13 minutes.

Hibs failed to clear their lines with just five minutes on the clock, with Wright slotting past Ofir Marciano after the visitors had tied themselves in knots in the 18-yard box.

Ryan Porteous then handed Cosgrove the ball on a plate when he fluffed an attempted long ball with the striker racing through one-on-one and deftly lifting the ball over the on-rushing Marciano and into the top corner.

Hibs half-heartedly appealed for a penalty in the second half when Martin Boyle went down under Matty Kennedy’s challenge but had to wait until injury-time for a first real chance that caused Lewis any trouble.
