The 25-year-old Swiss, who spent two years with Hibs between 2018 and 2020 and then a six-month loan spell at Rangers, is set to join Derek McInnes’ men for the remainder of the season from St Gallen in his homeland.

The Grasshopper Zurich academy graduate is still in Switzerland, but it is anticipated that the deal will be completed before the transfer window slams shut tonight. He will not arrive in the north-east in time for the game against Livingston tomorrow night, but is in line to make a debut on Saturday against his old employers Hibs.

Kamberi has struggled for game-time this season since swapping Easter Road for his homeland in the summer, and he also caught Covid-19 at the end of the year, forcing him to self-isolate for a number of weeks.

However, McInnes has always been an admirer of the Switzerland Under-21 internationalist and is need of attacking reinforcements after selling Sam Cosgrove to Birmingham City last weekend.

The Dons also hope to conclude a loan deal from Reims target man Fraser Hornby. The Scotland Under-21 striker’s move is expected to be rubber-stamped later today
