A brace from Christian Doidge and a third from Martin Boyle secured a 3-1 win for the Easter Road side with James Maxwell netting a consolation for the hosts.
The club’s Twitter account published a message, now deleted, that read: “Full time: We couldn’t beat Hibs but at least we beat Hearts last week.
"Five cup finals left for the South now as we push for promotion play-offs.”
Unsurprisingly the post was amplified by gleeful Hibs fans before being removed and replaced with a message that was far less cheeky.
