Hibs have announced that goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, signed on a season long loan deal from Preston North End, has today joined English League One outfit Blackpool.

The 29-year-old was signed by former boss Paul Heckingbottom to compete for the gloves with Israeli internationalist Ofir Marciano but made just 17 appearances for the capital club.

The return of Adam Bogdan pushed Maxwell down the pecking order and he made it clear to new head coach Jack Ross that he was unhappy with that situation and was keen to move on.

Maxwell has signed for Blackpool until the end of the season after his contract at Deepdale was cancelled.

He's the second player to have left Hibs this week, midfielder Josh Vela, like Maxwell a Heckingbottom signing, having moved on to Shrewsbury Town only months into a three year contract in Edinburgh.
