Darren McGregor opened the scoring with a thunderous effort on 21 minutes after Alex Gogic had gone close for Hibs and Ofir Marciano tipped over a vicious effort from Calum Butcher.

United rallied in the second half but Martin Boyle got the important second as he dinked the ball past Benji Siegrist for the second.
