Ex Sunderland and Hibs ace could make return to UK after summer transfer as 'interest' emerges
The midfielder had interest from Hibs in the summer after time at Sunderland.
A former Hibs star could be on his way back to the UK - just months after Easter Road interest and his exit from Sunderland.
One of the long-running transfer sagas from the summer window this season at Hibs was Nectar Triantis and whether or not he’d make a permanent return from Sunderland. The defender turned midfielder spent 18 months on loan in Leith, where after a tough start, head coach David Gray had him thriving in a defensive midfield role.
Hibs were interested in bringing the Greek international back as he spent pre season back at Sunderland but opted for MLS side Minnesota United. Their gaffer, Eric Ramsay, has left for English Championship ide West Brom after two seasons in charge and the former Man Utd coach deployed Triantis on 10 occasions, scoring three goals with two assists so far in America. Ramsay is now claimed to be keen on bringing the former Hibs and Sunderland man with him to the UK.
Nectar Triantis to West Brom latest
It’s claimed in The Mirror: “West Bromwich Albion could move to reunite the Minnesota United midfielder, Nectarios Triantis, with Eric Ramsay this month. Triantis worked under Ramsay in the United States after joining Minnesota from Sunderland in August - and Mirror Football understands West Brom's new boss would be keen on working with the 22-year-old again at the Hawthorns.
“West Brom are in the market for a midfielder this month and hold an interest in Triantis, who is under contract with Minnesota until 2029. The newly-capped Greek international is no stranger to second-tier clubs with Blackburn Rovers among those who were keen to sign him in the summer before Minnesota swooped for his services.”
Gray said in the summer of Triantis: “He was a pleasure to work with, that was one of the reasons why we wanted to bring him back in the first place. He's a real humble, hardworking boy who is constantly trying to improve all the time.
David Gray on Nectar Triantis at Hibs
“As a coach that's what you want as a dream to work with, and he's said a few times now how grateful he is for the opportunity he had. Because you're only as good as your teammates round about you.
“He had such a good season last year but the strength of the group and the coaches around that as well - a lot of coaches have done a lot of hard work with him to get him progressing all the time. He's got a lot of progressing still to be done and he's someone that I've worked closely with. And I'll be definitely keeping an eye on him to see how he gets on and wish him all the very best - if it's not here.
“Everyone's been in football long enough, some people move on, different situations. Nectar's a positive example of someone who came in, found a new position and has certainly improved over 12 months - and that's a lot of hard work from everybody involved and the group of players he's working with.”
